Areas of Expertise

Strategic Guidance

Artemis helps clients develop, refine and execute successful advocacy strategies. The first step of a successful advocacy program is a realistic and thoughtful advocacy plan.  We will work with you to design an advocacy strategic plan focused on measurable goals, tactics, and a timeline for activities to address each of your policy priorities.  However, we are also nimble and typically in pretty constant communication with our clients, which allows us to respond to additional issues that pop up.

Legislative Advocacy

Artemis assists organizations and advocates in identifying and educating key members of Congress and their staffs about their policy goals.  We are adept at developing and executing Congressional strategies to advance client priorities.  Whether planning legislative briefings or grassroots advocacy days, drafting and helping to advance legislation, providing persuasive fact sheets and technical documents at the right moment, or securing meetings with top policymakers, we have the skills, expertise, and relationships to get our clients’ voices heard.

Regulatory Advocacy

Artemis translates complicated and technical regulations to help clients decide when and how to get engage in agency advocacy, including drafting persuasive comment letters to influence regulatory decision-making.  We have significant experience advising clients on regulatory activities related to all agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services, with particular expertise related to the  Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Health Resources and Services Administration, among other federal agencies.  Successful agency advocacy, however, goes far beyond comment letters to include building and maintaining relationships with agency officials to protect, expand, and influence the activities of federal programs that are important to our clients.

Mobilizing Grass Roots and Stakeholder Support

Artemis works with clients to harness partners in grassroots and other collective advocacy activities.  There are no better advocates than people affected by a given condition, especially when equipped with the tools and knowledge to connect their personal stories with data and policy expertise.  Additionally, very little happens in Washington without key partnerships and coalition support. Artemis monitors and participates in coalition and other community activities as appropriate to help clients amplify their perspectives.

Nonprofit Management

Artemis is experienced in association management, serving for the last nine years as the sole staff people for a membership organization of specialized centers.  We work with the group’s Board to manage all aspects of the organization, including its programs, policy work, annual meeting, membership services, finances and Board and committee governance.  For this organization, we also manage its annual accreditation program.
